October 2019: Box Jade

I made a keyboard. If you've followed my musings on my weblog at all, you'll know I've been on a journey in search of the perfect keyboard experience. Of course, I've been unable to find the perfect experience that I am searching for, which is something I will have to make my peace with. Even so, I've managed to find something better than what I've had before in the form of Kailh Box Jade, which is a modification manufactured by NovelKeys from the base Kailh Box switch. These have a relatively stiff activation and a very large and sharp tactility, which is really what I've discovered makes them great for me. At this point, they have a very deep and throaty click which I am not so much of a fan of, however I am growing to enjoy it. Also, I don't have a key cap set for them, so I am recycling my old Razer BlackWidow key caps on the board. October: Rift CardBack

It took me a bit to get around to it, but I've made a few designs for the card backs to choose from. Version 1 is the design I threw together when I first built the game, to get the play tests up and running. It didn't come out well in the print at first, but then I brightened everything and it came out pretty decently. I still think it can tend to look like a couple of formless blobs, which isn't a very exciting look. However, with it brightened and if you take a moment to stare at it you can make out that it is a map. Fans of the game might realize it is a map of Runeterra. Other people probably won't really know what it is supposed to be. Since I am making a set for Shon, I think it would be appropriate for him to choose the back he wants out of the candidates I've managed to generate. February: Rift Lane Design

Things are moving much more slowly in the Rift project than I had originally projected. I think I could have wrapped the set by Thanksgiving of last year, but I would beg the indulgence of saying that the game is much better for the longer contemplation invested into it. I am excited to resume play testing and unbelievably excited for the extended play testing being offered by my close, yet remote, friends. Excited, like it makes me start shaking when I think about it. So, pretty excited. Yet, I think the delays are healthy. In the midst of this is the rest of life with all of its demands and needs, so I can't entirely claim the time has been solely spent on improvement. But I am progressing to the best of my abilities, and I humbly appreciate the application of patience. One of the aspects of the game that has received the largest overhaul is the lane system.
